Two Years Ago Today

Two years ago today we sat in a hospital in Montana waiting for the doctor to come tell us that our baby girl had been born. I remember the time dragging on as I sat nervous and excited at the same time. The doctor came out at 1:30 and asked if we would like to meet our baby girl! I remember my first little look at our tiny (or not so much weighing in at 8lbs3oz) perfect little girl and falling even more in love! Her big brother came in the room and melted my heart by promptly, without question, declaring, "sissy!". I was lucky enough to get to spend the night with her. I remember that she loved being held and she ate wonderfully.... we went through lots of diapers... even a few sheets and onesies! I didn't sleep much that night because I didn't want to stop looking at her and I didn't want her to disturb her birthmother. I remember being so nervous, and excited, then guilty because I was excited, then terrified that I would lose her because we were SO in love with this little girl. I remember holding her tight just in case this was the only night that I got with her. If anyone ever says that adoption is easy, they haven't spent a day, or week or a few months with a birth family. It isn't easy for anyone, but it can be perfect.
So today we celebrated Tiana. We ate her favorite foods, we played with what she wanted to play with, we did what she wanted to do, I lost track of how many times we sang her Happy Birthday. She got LOTS of kisses and "I Love You's" tons of extra squeezes. There was lots of laughter and squeals of excitement! But today my heart also went out to her little birth family..... her big brother, big sister and "tummy" mommy. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for entrusting us with this beautiful little perfect girl.
We love you Tiana, Happy Birthday, Sissy!
